Autodesk introduced a new and much improved manage Data References tool in Autodesk Civil 3D 2020.1+. Autodesk also cascaded that same mission-critical code back into the Civil 3D 2019.3+ Updates. Another one of the truly maddening terms in Autodesk Civil 3D is that Reference word. Maybe Reference is not quite as confusing in Civil 3D as the word Point. But Reference appears to come close.
