Civil 3D 2020 and the new Autodesk Civil 3D 2021 set forth on a much-publicized march to better forms of Design Collaboration for Civil 3D in the Cloud. Design Collaboration for Civil 3D sounds good. It Is supposed to sound good. By in large, it is good. Yet, this positive Cloud Collaboration effort makes us a little itchy in the back of our hindbrains.

The goal to significantly reduce those considerable man-hours we invest in the common Civil 3D civil engineering grading problems and tasks is certainly is worthy of pursuit. It is what we do. The work pays or it doesn’t. The boss knows that and demands the work had better pay.

The new Framework for Civil 3D 2021 products officially hit the street today. Hooray! The latest Jump Kit Release 8 for Civil 3D 2021 includes huge new libraries of well-crafted, integrated, and managed Civil 3D content resources. Why do that? That does not seem to be the most important question today.

The work on latest Release 8 of the Framework for Civil 3D 2021 seems to me to be a bit like our never-ending California Covid lock down. There were a bunch of silly stages all with hosts of picky and well-integrated details unlike the lock down rules in the Leaden State. Hopefully, our customers will never have to ever worry about that pile of codes ever again.

Managed symbol graphics in Autodesk Civil 3D can become a challenge. Not because it is particularly hard to do. This is AutoCAD 101 basics afterall. Inside Civil 3D there is an overwhelming amount of this detailed and sometimes project specific annotative detail in modern civil engineering and survey project plan set deliverables.
