Another one of the truly maddening terms in Autodesk Civil 3D is that Reference word. Maybe Reference is not quite as confusing in Civil 3D as the word Point. But Reference appears to come close. We have External References, Data References, file references, and even Reference Templates. I could go on.
For reasons that may…

Autodesk made some quiet and undocumented changes to the default Corridor properties in the latest Autodesk Civil 3D 2021.1 Update. The Civil 3D 2021.1 Update’s new separate Inside and Outside Corridor Bowtie Settings for both Tangent and Arcs corner intersection resolutions. Many folks in Civil 3D Land initially don’t, won’t, or cannot see the benefits of Civil 3D Corridor tools in civil engineering site grading projects. History matters. A Site grading design is basically an annotated finished grade Surface, right? Habit matters. Why do I need all that silly, complicated Corridor stuff and hassle for? Data management…

The new Autodesk Project Explorer for Civil 3D extension hit the street for AEC Collection…

At times I joke a bit about the Feature Lines Only design crowd in Civil 3D. I do this to contrast classic and manual Feature Line construction and manipulation methods with the advantages of managed Corridor Design methodologies that can produce multiple and controlled Feature Lines on demand. This is not a binary choice. Obviously, civil engineering folks need…
