On Aug 30, 2017 Autodesk simultaneously released a new Service Pack to AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 SP 1.1 and a new Productivity Pack. These are now renamed to Enhancements. This first one is called AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 v1 Enhancements. Some important stuff in that for surveyors and civil engineers alike.

Silly me. I had previously installed AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 SP1 and the latest Infraworks 360 Sept update. My Autodesk Desktop App went into a “I will reject your forever” loop that prevented the new Civil 3D 2017 SP1.1 and 2017 Enhancement v1 from ever appearing. Arrrgh.

Yes. The order of updates matters, but they don’t tell you that do they?
If you employ the Civil 3D niche products like Geotechnical and River and Flood Analysis the Civil 3D 2017 SP1.1 is probably an unspoken but helpful must.

I hope this post helps to stave off your personal and/or corporate Civil 3D 2017 rejection issues.

AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 V1 Enhancements

If you previously installed Civil 3D 2017 SP1 released earlier you must uninstall it and install the simultaneously released AutoCAD Civil 3D SP1.1 to install the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 V1 Enhancements.

If you installed the simultaneously released Sept update to Infraworks 360 first, you may not have the AutoCAD Civil 3D SP1.1 and the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 V1 Enhancements ever show in the updated version of the Autodesk Desktop App that is installed with Infraworks 360.
You may need to manually uninstall Civil 3D 2017 Sp1 then download and install Civil 3D 20177 SP1.1. Finally manually download the Civil 3D 2017 V1 Enhancements and install that. As of creation of this post AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 SP1.1 does not appear on the Autodesk public downloads page. Perhaps Autodesk just replaced the SP1 link.

The Autodesk Dev Team performed another Dan and Dave Show webinar in the last week of August before Labor Day to cover both the Infraworks and Civil 3D updates and features.
You probably missed it.
Never fear. Here’s the entire video. Look for out takes on our always updating Infraworks and AutoCAD Civil 3D training video pages. These include more detailed Timelines. Now that's Way Cool.

New Functionality:

  • Add Property Set Data to Labels:
Add custom data to AutoCAD Civil 3D object labels by using property sets.
  • Analyze Gravity Network:
This utility enables you to resize pipes and reset inverts and to compute the energy and hydraulic grade lines according to HEC-22 2009 standards. You can use this utility to:
    • Iteratively analyze a network using appropriate rainfall data
    • Review results graphically and in a .csv file
    • Modify the results and re-run the analysis
    • Apply the results to the pipe network
  • Swap Pressure Network Parts:
Swap pressure network pipes, fittings, and appurtenances with parts of another size or type.
This utility enables you to select parts from either the current network parts list or from a part catalog.

Updated Functionality and Content:

The following features from earlier productivity packs have been updated so they can be installed and work with AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017.

  • Subassemblies:
A set of subassemblies is included in this release, including subassemblies for benches, curbs, ditches, shoulders, tunnels, and single-track and double-track railways. Note: After installing AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 v1 Enhancements, you will need to import the PKT files into a Tool Palette to access them.
  • Autodesk Civil Engineering Data Translator:
Translate AutoCAD Civil 3D files to files that can be used in Bentley® GEOPAK® and Bentley® InRoads®, and translate GEOPAK and InRoads files to files that can be used in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Create 3D Solids from Pipe Networks:
Create AutoCAD Solids from AutoCAD Civil 3D pipe networks and pressure networks.
  • Rail Turnouts and Crossings commands:
Create and edit rail turnouts and crossovers.
  • Traverse Editor:
Use the Traverse Editor to input and edit traverse data. Create points, lines, and curves representing traverse legs and sideshots using COGO input and editing tools. The traverse can be used to generate a polyline, COGO points, and a TRV2 traverse file which you can open in the Traverse Adjustment dialog box and apply an adjustment method.
  • Traverse Adjustment:
Use the Traverse Adjustment feature to apply an adjustment method to traverse data. Perform traverse adjustments and generate reports using Compass, Transit, Crandall, and Grant Line adjustment methods, and update COGO points and traverse geometry within the drawing.
