One of the miracles of modern model-based, Style-managed software is the CAD Standards consistency, flexibility, and adaptive interoperability the innovative use of these technologies can provide to us and our clients. For too many folks in Civil 3D Land, the more immediate problem is to get to and maintain any set of consistent CAD Standards for Civil 3D.

Despite the marketplace sales hype, the challenge for most civil engineering and survey organizations is not a single customized version of Civil 3D – one Civil 3D template that does everything.

Our production work occurs in project-based environments that are, and must be, responsive to client, project type, and jurisdictional CAD Standards demands and requirements.

The On-going Civil 3D Business Problem

We must address the need to find a better path to systematically manage the customization of Civil 3D.

The Framework for Civil 3D is designed, built, and continuously improved primarily to address these ever-present mission critical issues.

Release 8 Layer Standards 2020 AddOn

We released our latest the Layer Standards update for the Framework for Civil 3D Release 8 2020.1.

These Layer Standards include new and improved NCS 6 Layer Standards, the tools, and all the build, edit, and manage resources in easy to use packages.
The Layer Standards fully support the NCS 6.0 and include AIA, GSA, and DOD variants of same.
We include all the AIA and DOD Layer Standards for all the official NCS Disciplines and specialized pre-built mashups of typical civil engineering and survey project-based resources.

You get ready to run types-of-project based Layer Standards; practical and fully functional Layer States; and all the tools and resources necessary to tweak them should you face the need.

These Layer Standards tools and resources are officially compliant, truly interoperable, and adaptive.

Combined the unsurpassed Civil 3D Styles collection libraries available with the Framework for Civil 3D and you have a deeper level of Civil 3D Standards interoperability. Check out the recent Civil 3D and Adaptive Standards Interoperability post and the Framework for Civil 3D Release 7 Layer Standards post.

New and Improved Adaptive Building Block Layer Standards

An Adaptive Building Block is based on the simple idea that better production results in our Civil 3D projects require pre-built sets of specialty resources (like Layer System resources) that can be easily added on demand to either our Civil 3D templates or even individual Civil 3D task specialty project drawings.

The Quicker Way to Layer System Key-Based Civil Design

A flood control project is not an Airport taxiway and a terminal pads improvement project nor is either of those a river Channel dredging rehabilitation project. The Framework for Civil 3D therefore supports a varied list of project and task type Adaptive Building Blocks with optional and varied choices that are ready to run. See the details below for a list.

The latest versions of the Release 8 NCS 6.0 Layer Standards and Release 8 NCS 6.0 AIA Layer Standards include added support for both STB and CTB versions of all the Framework’s Adaptive Building Block layer standards resources. There are now new and improved Key-based Layer Standards Tools for both NCS 6.0 and AIA Layer systems.

The upcoming Framework for Civil 3D Release 8 2020.1 build includes the integrated and in-depth Key-based Adaptive Building Block Style collections supported by these Layer system resources.

Worker Smarter Not Harder

The Framework for Civil 3D is a project- proven Managed System for Civil 3D that works.

Here a summary of the technical details for the updated Layer Standards from the Release 8 Details page.

Release 8 NCS 6 Layer Standards 2020.1

All Layer Standards Updates may be employed in all Release 8 and Release 7 versions for Civil 3D versions 2020-2018.

All Layer Standards exchange and interoperability is significantly improved. There are far fewer layer behavioral inconsistencies.
Added NCS Discipline-based Screening and corrected automatic screening for PATT Layers to be consistent across all supplied Layer Standards resources.

All Layer Standards Spreadsheet Tools were updated and drawing standard resources and supplied scripts updated where required.

All new Layer Standards Spreadsheet Tools file names updated to end in 2020.

Pressure Pipes Layer Support

  • All supplied Layer Standards, Layer States, and script resources updated for new Pressure Pipes resources.
If you do not employ Pressure Pipes, only the minor added V-VIEW-PROF-PATT layer may affect previous versions.
In other words, this layer is not included in the previously supplied Layer Standards and Layer State resources.
This layer exists to hold hatch display for Pressure Pipe Fittings and Appurtenances in Profile Views.
  • New script resources are supplied to add the layer and appropriate Layer State Settings.
