The Autodesk AutoCAD 2023 products were officially released this week. As we all know by now the core AutoCAD license also includes access to the Seven AutoCAD Toolsets. From the civil engineer’s or surveyor’s point of view these notably include the Map 3D 2023 and Raster Design 2023 Toolsets.
Of course, core AutoCAD and Map 3D functionalities and features underpin the capabilities that we employ every day in Autodesk Civil 3D.
Do the new ACAD 2023 and Map 3D 2023 releases come with real benefits?
Honestly, that mostly depends on us, our adaptability, and not the endlessly changing code.

AutoCAD 2023 New Tools Playlist
The AutoCAD 2023 release supports both Windows 11 and Windows 10 and boasts the new Autodesk graphics engine introduced as a preview last release. Once again there is no dwg format change. The official AutoCAD technical requirements got a couple of minor bump ups as usual. If you run a reasonably current version of Civil 3D, your hardware should be good to go.

Markup Import and Markup Assist
Rapidly send and incorporate feedback into your designs.
Import feedback from printed paper or PDFs and add changes to your drawings automatically, without additional drawing steps.

Sheet Set Manager
There are now two Sheet Set Managers! One for the cloud and the old one.
Open sheet sets quicker than ever before.
Using the Autodesk cloud platform, sending and opening sheet sets to and from teammates is quicker and safer.
Count
Automate the counting of blocks or objects within a selected area or throughout your entire drawing with a menu to identify errors and navigate through your counted objects.

Floating Drawing Windows
Important functional improvements to the Floating Drawing Window interface.
Doc the command lines and keep them attached to the Drawing Windows or not. Yum.
3D Graphics
AutoCAD includes the new cross platform 3D graphics system.
This new graphics system leverages the power of modern GPUs and multi-core CPUs to offer a smooth navigation experience for much larger drawings than in prior releases.
Additional ACAD Enhancements
Some of these we can believe deserve an “about time” remark.
- Insert Block:
The Block Redefine dialog box provides an option to rename a block when the specified block name already exists in the drawing. - Options Dialog Box:
A new task dialog prompts you to either save or discard the changes made when you attempt to close or cancel the Options dialog box. - Isolation Mode:
The object selection is now maintained when you exit isolation mode. - New Drawing:
Hovering over the New drop-down on the Start tab, displays a tooltip with the name of the drawing template file that will be used. - Customer Error Reporting (CER):
Your email address is now automatically filled in when an error report is generated. - Multi-core Background Publishing:
The publish option "Include Hyperlinks" is now supported when publishing a Multi-sheet PDF file using background publishing. - New Polyline Edits:
Right click and Extend a new node before the first node of a polyline - CUTBASE command:
Chop a selection set of objects out to the Clipboard and paste with the selected basepoint - Command Macros Palette Tool:
