Each February Autodesk begins a new corporate fiscal year. “Out with the old and in with the new.” By the end of the month, Autodesk begins to release those important and vital updates to the supportive software for their core software and cloud applications.

Visions of maidens that dance around the maypole suddenly come to mind. Why is that? Autodesk was born in the Northern California Bay Area. Once upon a time and back in the day such things might actually happen.

We like call this the annual Autodesk celebration…

The Autodesk Rights of Spring

For many of us out here is Civil 3D Land, the annual Autodesk Right of Spring means the pending release of AutoCAD 2026 and the Toolkits that include Map 3D. Some of us do await the Revit 2026 based products for obvious reasons.

For most of us there will also be cascaded Autodesk Civil 3D Updates to earlier releases.

None of the orchestrated drama is anything like the on-going and bizarre mystery of Gene Hachman’s and his wife’s deaths or the President’s recent speech to the joint sessions of Congress.

The most important thing for us all is to recognize those important and vital updates to Autodesk’s supportive software.

The little nuance’s of these updates can cause a disturbance in the Force before 4/4. Eheh.

"I read the news today. Oh, Boy."

You can search and read the cadpilot News (we carefully track such things) and/or follow this list.

First up…

Autodesk Desktop Connector 16.12.0.2384

No matter what they call them the Autodesk Cloud apps don’t run without a recent or current version of the Autodesk Desktop Connector (ADC).

For all you Civil 3D folks, the ADC install includes a copy of the Reference Explorer. The Reference Explorer tool is a must have to help us better manage and maintain the drawings and references our Civil 3D projects whether those are run in the clouds or not.

The Reference Explorer sometimes can explain why that drawing behaves so badly.

Don’t leave home without it.

Autodesk CER Service 7.1.4

The Autodesk CER (Customer Error Reporting) Service 7.1.4 manages the automated error reporting for Autodesk’s software and apps.

An install of the latest CER version generally helps with performance.

Autodesk Access 2.13

The Autodesk Access app allows users to manage installs and updates to most but not all Autodesk software. Someone somewhere in your organization should run Access and visit the Updates section of the Autodesk Subscription site.

Updates to the Autodesk Access app software itself are typically automatic, but not always.

It is a good idea to make sure that we have the current Access release installed and that we review what is available on the Autodesk Subscription site a regular basis.

A regular review is especially true as we approach the next Autodesk core software release.

Autodesk Licensing Service 15.1.0.12803

We all get it that Autodesk Licensing Service (ALS) SNAFUs and failures can wreck our day. Been there. Done that. Got my tee-shirt.

Starting with this latest release of the ALS, for Windows operating system, the Autodesk Licensing Service will no longer support Windows Server 2016 or Windows 10 (v1809 or lower).

That last little bit above shouldn’t be problematic for most of us in Civil 3D Land, but you never know.
