Early this fall Autodesk continues to prepare and release a rash of important Civil 3D Updates in preparation for the annual Autodesk University event. This year AU-2026 is back in Las Vegas, NV from Sept 15-17, 2026. Of course, lots of folks will show up on Monday the 14th. Call it - Day Zero.

The Civil 3D 2027.1 Update for the latest Autodesk Civil 3D 2027 release was released only a month ago. Our installed version of Civil 3D 2024 needs an update. Really? How come?

There are Civil 3D Object Model Updates required to support Civil 3D Backwards Compatibility for the older releases.

Speaking of the devil and the details…

Civil 3D 2024.4.9 Arrives with Bells On

There are lots of picky install details involved in this Civil 3D 2024.4.9 Update.

Autodesk simultaneously dropped a round of AutoCAD 2024 and AutoCAD Map 3D 2024, related product Updates to upgrade the current Civil 3D 2024 Object Model to support the new Civil 3D 2027.1 Update Object Model.

Autodesk doesn’t publicly talk about these Object Model upgrades. It’s an OOP (object oriented programming) code thing. The model is what the model is.

This Civil 3D Update does mean our Civil 3D 2024 will never the same. That’s a good thing.

The Civil 3D 2024.4.9 Update also performs the important migration of the code to support Microsoft .Net 10.0. For Microsoft ISVs (independent software vendors) like Autodesk, a mandatory compiled upgrade build to .Net 10.0 for apps running in the Windows OS is required.

This helps to partially explain why there are so many other Autodesk product and app Updates required this time around.

The latest Civil 3D 2024 Update alone does NOT cover all our .NET 10 dependency Autodesk product update issues.

See the following News posts for the specifics and gory details:

The ArcGIS Online and related ESRI features in Map 3D 2024 and Civil 3D 2024 will break if we miss the mandatory AutoCAD 2024 and Map 3D 2024 Updates.

Wait There’s More

See the News page for the most recent releases of important Autodesk release integration app code:

You may experience Civil 3D Update installation and/or deployment problems without the above updates also installed. Sad and true.

Don’t Try to Dodge the Bullets

We said this before and we’ll say it again…

Doing the Matrix special effect thing and trying to dodge this round of 2024 Updates might look and feel cool. It will probably get you whopped upside of the head even if you do succeed at avoiding the initial hassles.
What goes around comes around.

In any case, there are significant AutoCAD 2024, Map3D 2024, and Civil 3D 2024 performance and fixed issue reasons to punch these magic 2024 Update buttons.
These may not generate jaw dropping performance jumps.
Nonetheless they are worth the small price of admission.
They get you now or later with some more pain and nastiness. Just sayin’.

Consider this a red pill moment. Eheh.

An Upcoming 2028 .DWG File Format Change

Autodesk has stated publicly that there will be a new AutoCAD 2028 .dwg file format change. Cry me a river.
It has been ten years since the last one.

There will be a new AutoCAD Object Model to support new and improved Features and Objects inside AutoCAD and the AutoCAD platform products like Civil 3D.

Now you know why the Civil 3D 2024.4.9 Update is important.

Don’t miss it…

The existing Jump Kit and Templates Only product builds for Civil 3D 2024 appear to run fine after the Updates.
Imagine that.
