In the middle of the annual Autodesk University 2026 event Autodesk released the obviously a bit complex .NET 10 upgrades for AutoCAD 2025, Map 3D 2025, Civil 3D 2025, and the other AutoCAD 2025 Toolsets.
The Civil 3D 2025.2.7 Update is a Civil 3D Object Model Update required to support Civil 3D Backwards Compatibility for the recent Civil 3D 2027.1 Update.
Why does our installed version of Civil 3D 2025 need an update?
It’s all about those important and significant code details…
Civil 3D 2025.2.7 Updates Arrive
There are lots of picky install details involved in this Civil 3D 2025.2.7 Update.
Autodesk simultaneously dropped a round of AutoCAD 2025 and AutoCAD Map 3D 2025, related product Updates to upgrade the current Civil 3D 2025 Object Model to support the new Civil 3D 2027.1 Update Object Model.
Autodesk won’t publicly talk about these Object Model upgrades. It’s an OOP (object oriented programming) code thing. The model is what the model is.
This Civil 3D Update does mean our Civil 3D 2025 will never the same. That’s a good thing.
The Civil 3D 2025.2.7 Update also performs the important migration of the code to support Microsoft .Net 10.0. For Microsoft ISVs (independent software vendors) like Autodesk, a mandatory compiled upgrade build to .NET 10.0 for apps running in the Windows OS is required. Microsoft support for older versions of .NET ends in early November.
This end of the road helps to partially explain why there are so many other Autodesk product and app Updates required this time around.
The latest Civil 3D 2025.2.7 Update alone does NOT cover all our .NET 10 dependency Autodesk product update issues. The Civil 3D update will install the AutoCAD and Map 3D updates, but there is more to the issue than that for many of us out here in Civil 3D Land.
See the following News posts for the specifics and all the many gory details:
- AutoCAD 2024.1.4 Update
- Autodesk RealDWG Shared 2025.1.4 Update
- AutoCAD Map 3D 2025.0.3 Update
- Autodesk Civil 3D 2025.2.7 Update
- Autodesk Vehicle Tracking 2025.1
The ArcGIS Online and related ESRI features in Map 3D 2025 and Civil 3D 2025 will break if we miss these mandatory AutoCAD 2025 and Map 3D 2025 Updates.
The Autodesk Civil 3D 2025.2.7 Update News post above contains references to other vital Civil 3D 2025 extensions and app code we should not and cannot ignore.
For example…
- Software integration issues will occur if we fail to also install the Civil 3D 2025.2.7 Object Enabler.
- Batch Save gets upgraded to support .NET 10.
Wait There’s More
See the News page for the most recent releases of important Autodesk release integration app code:
- Autodesk Identity Manager 1.19.2
- Autodesk Licensing Service 16.5.0.16154
- Autodesk Desktop Connector 2027.2.2
- Autodesk CER Service 7.3.0
You may experience Civil 3D Update installation and/or deployment problems without the above updates also installed. Sad and true.
Don’t Try to Dodge the Bullets
We said it before. We’ll say it again…
Don’t do the Bruce Lee thing and try to dodge this round of 2025 Updates. Yeah. That may look and feel cool. It will get you whacked around the head and shoulders even if you do succeed at avoiding the initial install hassles.
In any case, there are significant AutoCAD 2025, Map3D 2025, and Civil 3D 2025 performance and fixed issue reasons to punch these magic 2025 Update buttons.
These will not generate jaw dropping performance jumps. Just sayin’.
The many installs are worth the small price of admission.
The updates are a hedge against our known future.
Like it or not…
There Will be an Upcoming 2028 .DWG File Format Change
Autodesk has stated publicly that there will be a new AutoCAD 2028 .dwg file format change.
There will be a new AutoCAD Object Model to support new and improved Features and Objects inside AutoCAD and the AutoCAD platform products like Civil 3D.
Now you know why the Civil 3D 2025.2.7 Update is important.
Don’t miss it…
The existing Jump Kit and Templates Only product builds for Civil 3D 2025 appear to run fine after the Updates.
Imagine that.
New product builds for Civil 3D 2025.2.7 will be released soon.
