A great review of surface building tools and the important concepts and workflows required to get it done.
Me? I'd probably WBLOCK out from the initial drawing the raw AutoCAD primitives I need for the DTM surface model into a new drawing.
Most of the time we're not so lucky to get a TIN models as 3D lines supplied to us. We may be required to employ primitives collected in multiple selection sets.
Removing the ACAD primitives from the surfaces from the resultant Surface Data References is more important for maintenance and stability reasons than you may think. Do the do.
Storing your Data Reference drawings in drawings with your Style collections in them makes upgrading those sources more problematic. Use NoStyles templates and drawings.

Remember to keep a copy of any edited xsl reports somewhere separate from your Civil 3D install location.
If you have other users, you will also need to get them pushed around.
Jason's issue with the double quote character in the video are because a double quote character is a reserved character in xsl. They must be escaped to be read literally. His work around works.
Special CAD Character Codes in Unicode like the ones employed in the video are important for more reasons than you want to know.
Read the Our Special Friends have Character post. It is an golden oldie. It contains a table of useful codes too.
Create 3D Block Markers on a Feature Line
Create 3D Block Markers on a Feature Line

Jowenn Lua walks through a neat trick to place 3D blocks on a Corridor Feature Line with Point Codes from a Code Set Style in Civil 3D.

Corridor Code Set Style can automate some amazing stuff in Civil 3D. They sort of serve as an output Layer Manager for Corridors afterall.
This trick pretty much requires a separate Corridor for the Feature Line onto which you want to place regular blocks.
You certainly need a plan to name the blocks and appropriate Point Codes or it is easy to get lost and confused by the references.
You might also chose to employ the Corridor Station Point Labels workflow to generate point locations on the Corridor Feature Lines instead.
This method would allow you to swap on demand a set of 2D Plan symbols or 3D block symbols at the locations by Description Key Sets.
