It must be the IDS of April. Autodesk released the 2017 Suite products and AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 just in time for tax day. As I recall there’s still another week left on the Autodesk subscription deal. AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 includes some things we’ve waited much too long for. Civil 3D 2017’s here to help.

The Dan and Dave Show

On Tuesday, Apr 19, 2016 @ 2:PM – 3 PM EST there was an online seminar by Dan and Dave on What’s New in Infraworks 360 and Civil 3D 2017.

What's New

Here’s the link to the What’s New page on the public AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 Help.

  • Data Shortcut Referenced Corridors
  • Referenced Style Templates
  • Better Project Data Shortcut Organization
  • Feature Line Baselines
  • Better Infraworks 360 back and forth
  • Productivity improvements done over the year in 2016
  • Additional tune ups to Civil 3D features and other goodies

It would be nice to see what these new features mean. Done deal...

What's New in Civil 3D 2017 Videos

This Autodesk page has lots of quick mini-videos that cover many of the Civil 3D 2017 changes.
It's worth a visit.

2017 Release and Details

The Infrastructure Design Suite 2017 (IDS) is available for download to subscription customers.
There are changes to the included products in IDS 2017 depending upon the edition.

The AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 is available for download to subscription customers.

The AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 System Requirements can be found here.
They remain about the same as 2016, officially include Windows 10 support, and recommend DirectX 11 compatible video card support.

Release Concern and Issues

The core AutoCAD .dwg format has not changed – still AutoCAD 2013.
Be aware that Civil 3D 2017 features are not backwards compatible to older Civil 3D releases.
This is a return to the traditional Civil 3D upgrade behaviors of the past.

My download and install of IDS 2017 (from a deployment of course) in Windows 10 went off without any major hitches. Remember. There is already an AutoCAD 2017 hot fix to install.
