Seems to be the week for odd News, Productivity Packs, and things I missed getting out the new Release 7. Strange Feature Line things happened to me in Civil 3D 2016. Do they happen to you? Then I discover that AUDIT is my problem. Huh? Say What?

Autodesk does not exactly advertise this AutoCAD Civil 3D 2016 SP2 problem. Dumb. This is one of those really painful things to discover the hard way. This was particularly galling to me after all the hype about new Feature Line functionality in Civil 3D 2016 in Service Pack 2.

Don’t get me wrong. I do love mass Feature Line extractions from corridors. See the best short video on that at the end of the post.

Dumber. Come on Autodesk. Don’t you think this one probably deserves a place on the Downloads page. If you check out the instructions below you’ll note you are asked to replace four key chunks of core code in AutoCAD Civil 3D.

While it is NOT stated here in the Knowledge Network post this issue may also explain some Import Style issues with Feature Lines after 2016 SP2. Ah then again probably not. I forgot Civil 3D 2017 has problems too. Oh well, never mind.
Remember to use manual drag and drop to update Feature Line Styles in Civil 3D.

Did you know all our Release 7 Framework for Civil 3D products come with a handy set of instructions for upgrading drawings and templates in Civil 3D? We even tell you what Feature Styles fail with Style Import. We feel your pain. Fancy that.

Below is the full content of the important Autodesk Knowledge Network post.
I made a couple of comments.

You can use the link above to download the hotfix zip file.

Do the deed or wait for the next 2016 Service Pack and risk hours of work because you or Bob uses AUDIT or must RECOVER a file. That never happens to me in Civil 3D when I work on grading projects. Nah.

Please note that it might look like you are asked to do the same thing twice.

Issue:

After installing Service Pack 2 for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2016, you receive errors during an audit or a fatal error when you move feature lines between sites.
Examples include:

  • Feature line elevation points are deleted after running audit.
  • Create Feature Line always defaults to No Site (should use the last-used site).
  • Feature line style fails to be modified in Feature Line tab, Corridor Properties.
Maybe you can’t edit the Feature Line Style anywhere

Solution:

Close AutoCAD Civil 3D 2016.

Using Windows Explorer go to

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2016

  1. Rename AeccLand.dbx to AeccLand.dbx.OLD.
  2. Rename AeccRoadway.dbx to AeccRoadway.dbx.OLD.
  3. Download attached AeccLand.dbx and AeccRoadway.dbx and copy them into
    C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2016\

In C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2016\C3D:

  1. Rename:  AeccUiLand.arx to AeccUiLand.arx.OLD
  2. Rename:  AeccUiRoadway.arx to AeccUiRoadway.arx.OLD
  3. Download attached AeccUiLand.arx  and AeccUiRoadway.arx and copy them into
    C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2016\C3D

Restart AutoCAD Civil 3D 2016.

If you do grading design with Corridors – and you should - Feature Lines from Corridors is mission critical in Civil 3D. You’ll find this video and many other useful Civil 3D training videos on our Civil Web Training pages.

How to Use the Civil 3D 2016 Extract Corridor Feature Lines Tool

A video from a Jeff Bartel's YouTube channel see the Autodesk Civil Immersion blog.

Feature(d) Comments

Since the C3D 2013 Productivity Pack is included in Civil 3D 2017 this is also listed and a new feature in 2017.
Jeff does a better or more detailed job of showing how it works here. You will say "ooooo" at the interactive border section.

If you deal with grading interaction issues and complex corridors this tool is better than hot sliced bread, butter, and wild clover honey.

Spend a little time and invest in a proper Code Set Style. That helps you from being overwhelmed. See the Flines Only one in InstantOn.

Did you know Civil 3D could do all that?
You probably missed Civil 3D 2016 Productivity Pack 2. Dooh.

Did I forget to mention that our new Release 7 Framework products include handy Code Set Styles and Feature Line Styles to make this even easier?

Would it help to Survey Site Design and Style in Civil 3D?
