This April has had it’s share of surprises. Folks seem to pay attention when this happens or miss the consequences. Is this April’s theme the politics of the clueless?
Reminds me of that old TV game show Truth or Consequences. Truth or Consequences made Bob Barker, also of The Price is Right fame, a household name long before there was even a hint of social media. Do fan clubs count?
Ok. Maybe you only remember the classic Bob Barker fight scene bit in Happy Gilmore? We’ll skip the Youtube video.
Truth or Consequences was the first game show to air on broadcast television as an experiment in July of 1941. It was the first radio or TV game show to have a town renamed in its honor - Truth or Consequences, NM.
Contestants in Truth or Consequences were chosen “at random” from the studio audience. They had to answer an absurd or joke trivia question right or perform a wacky stunt. Most contestants chose to answer the question wrong to perform the stunt. Seriously.
The popular game show would often reunite long-lost family members or returning veterans with the contestants and their families on TV. Folks recognized this as good, popular entertainment not and the news.
Today, we seem to have much more difficulty with the truth or consequences.
