This weekend on Saturday Oct 8, 2022, Civil 3D standalone licenses with subscription for Autodesk Civil 3D for 2023 all the way back to Autodesk Civil 3D 2020 will suddenly get much better. All these Civil 3D releases instantly become significantly more powerful and user friendly too.

Quietly behind the scenes, Autodesk officially announced that Project Explorer for Civil 3D (PE) and Grading Optimization for Civil 3D (GO) product licenses will now be included for Civil 3D standalone subscription customers at no additional cost. Hoorah. This is really good news.

In Civil 3D it’s all about project time…Project time is our time.

Project Explorer and Grading Optimization License Changes

Grading Optimization for Civil 3D (GO) and Project Explorer for Civil 3D (PE) licenses will be available for standalone Civil 3D Autodesk Subscription customers beginning Oct 8, 2022.

Previously, the GO and PE licenses required an AEC Collection product Subscription.
The Project Explorer and Grading Optimization products will now be available to standalone Civil 3D license holders with subscription at no additional cost.

These very important Civil 3D standalone product license changes appear in an official announcement posted on the Autodesk Knowledge Network officially dated Sept 22, 2022.

To quote:

“After considering requests from many of our customers, Autodesk has made the decision to make the Grading Optimization for Civil 3D and Project Explorer for Civil 3D extensions available to customers with subscriptions to standalone Civil 3D.

As of October 8, 2022, customers with a subscription to standalone Civil 3D will have access to these extensions.”

Note that Civil 3D multi-user or EDU classic licenses of Civil 3D are not currently affected.

“…these extensions will not be supported in multi-user subscriptions or EDU (education) classic licenses of Civil 3D. We are working hard to remediate this. However, at this time, we cannot make any commitment to being able to accomplish this and to announce a specific timeframe.”

GO is no one trick pony.

It begs to ask - What are we grading for and to?

Shared Design Control and Complex Corridors

The PE truly rocks in complex multiple Baseline Corridor or Feature Line based grading design in Civil 3D.

See more PE in our Intersections and Corridors video collection.

The Project Explorer and Grading Optimization products do, and probably will, continue to require separate installs for the foreseeable future.

Our famous Jump Kit products, available for all these Civil 3D releases, include Sandbox Project datasets that allow you to learn to play and produce with the PE and GO.
