 Median Design with Corridors

Median Design with Corridors

5/26/2020

Kyle Groves, a Technical Specialist at ATG, explains detailed demo of the use of Marked Point and LinktoMarkPoint tools for median design in Civil 3D.
From the ATG YouTube Channel.

Comments

This is a decent walk through of median mechanics in Civil 3D with a focus on the use and purpose of Marked Point and LinktoMarkPoint subassemblies.
Kyle also manages to dig himself a design ditch delivering an solid approach to a common design problem which is instructive all be itself.

I'm not sure of the reasons for Kyle's aversion for more Regions in his Baselines or the addition of more Baselines in the example Corridor.
The necessity of Region and Baseline management in Corridors is another deep and time consuming topic. No worries.
The details of the employment of buried lanes, Marked Points (and their relationship to Codes in Code Set Styles) and LinktoMarkPoints in Assemblies is an important series of tips.
Any Free source of Subassembly Composer PKT files we can get and modify is a good thing. Thank you, CTC Software.

 Power Grips and Civil 3D

Power Grips and Civil 3D

5/21/2020

Autodesk's Jeff Bartels covers a detailed review of the Grips tool functionalities in Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
See the Jeff Bartels YouTube Channel.
and the Civil Immersion blog.

Comments

You will learn something important in this video. Many of the Grips interface nuances are personal productivity game changers. What we don't know...we don't know.

Jeff still tries to wear out his Esc key. He doesn't turn on Shift to Add in the Selection Tab of Options.

I am biased. I consider Grips the best edit and create tool improvement that ever happened to AutoCAD. Grips skill is worth hours of your work week.
I contend that watching for the use of Grips skill in Civil 3D remains one of the best ways to quickly evaluate user skill.
The Grips control and capability for Civil 3D Features is far deeper the most users learn to employ. That shows quickly.

If you want to get good at all the Ctrl Shift and Alt key and Dyn Grip interface nuances, you must practice and drill.
5 minutes a day for a week twice a year works for me. Ok. I try do this when a new Civil 3D Update occurs to keep it simple.

 Hole Fixes for Surfaces

Hole Fixes for Surfaces

5/20/2020

Michael Ferrell, a Technical Specialist at ATG, delivers a lengthy webinar on basic to intermediate Surface repair mechanics.
From the ATG YouTube Channel.

Comments

Michael's coverage of the Civil 3D Surface Build properties and Edits of the Surface build order is good stuff.
How to remove the unneccesssary ACAD primitives from a DTM is an important tip to know.
His explanation of Wall breakline mechanics in a great how to tip.
This webinar is certainly targeted at the old school Feature Lines Only crowd.
I'm not sure why he never states...
The order that surface point data and breakline edits enter a DTM Surface model (and how they are processed) is more important than most recognize.
In other words, a vomit it all in and clean up the mess approach usually makes for more silly cleanup work.
