Divided Crown Superelevation in Civil 3D

Divided Crown Superelevation in Civil 3D

11/19/2025

Paul Storm, a Micrographics Solutions tech, continues his study of how to produce a Divided Crown Roadway design with Superelevation in Civil 3D.
The video includes a quick review of a corrected Assembly (which includes a Marked Point subassembly) and a pair of divided crown two lane roads with paved shoulders.
The core steps of the Superelevation Wizard and the basics of Civil 3D Superelevation Views are also covered.

Comments

The AASHTO tables and superelevation values produced by the Superelevation Wizard and employed here work for most 2 and 4 lane Divided Crown highways in most US States.
Use of the appropriate Design Criteria file is also required for passable and acceptable production results.
Note that the reviewed Assembly includes a Marked Point subassembly in the first resolved Group and the proper type of Superelevation and setting values are employed here.

Here's a link to the previous webinar video in the series.

This example from a Jump Kit Sandbox Project dataset and the Templates Only Example Corridors drawing employs slope controlled Offset Profiles but any other design control can be employed for the targeting.

Divided Highways and Marked Points in Civil 3D

11/13/2025

Paul Storm, a Micrographics Solutions tech, delivers a webinar on how to produce a Divided Highway with Superelevation in Civil 3D with stock subassemblies and Corridor tools.
This video reviews: the Assembly construction basics; the essentials of targeting required for the Corridor; and the basics of how the superelevation works.

Comments

Paul attempts and mostly succeeds in addressing one of the more confusing highway design problems that we can address with Civil 3D.

What they don't tell you.
Divided Highway Assemblies require that there are two seperate Groups in the Assembly - a Left and a Right.
We cannot just mirror over the Crowned Roads subsassemblies as shown in the webinar.
We also have to select the correct type of Superelevation and parameters to apply to the Corridor Baseline in the Superelevation Wizard.
The use of Marked Points subassemblies requires that the Marked Point be in the first Group of the Assembly for the Linked to subassemblies to function correctly.

Here's a link to the next video in the series that fixes the superelevation issues discovered in the webinar.

Parcel Creation Tools in Civil 3D

11/11/2022

A CAD Masters Civil 3D trainer reviews and demos the basics and design criteria essential settings of the Parcel Creation tools in Civil 3D.

Comments

This is a good demo of how to use the Slide Line Parcel Creation tool option.
The review of each of the Parcel Tool settings and the Parcel parameters is the most useful portion.
The direction which we define the frontage and/or whether we choose to define the frontage in sections is also important but left unsaid.
