 Civil 3D Layers Best Practices

Civil 3D Layers Best Practices

7/11/2021

Kyle Groves, a Technical Specialist at ATG, delivers an instructional walkthrough about AutoCAD Layer functionality in Civil 3D.
From the ATG YouTube Channel.

Comments

The first 38 minutes of this video is a good instructional review of AutoCAD Layer basics and Civil 3D Layer mechanics in Civil 3D Styles and Settings.
Funny. Almost upfront Kyle states that Styles are more powerful than Layers in Civil 3D then proceeds to talk about and employ the AutoCAD Layer Manager time and time again.
It is easy to almost never employ the AutoCAD Layer Manager in the production use of Civil 3D. Say what?
For reasons unknown, Kyle dodges some really important essential tools like Layer States.

Simply put: Great Civil 3D Style Tools coupled with managed Layers States create more freedom to work better and faster in Civil 3D.
What do you know? The Framework for Civil 3D Spreadsheet tools produce Layer Standards spreadsheets that work with the CTC tools.

Make the Civil 3D Section Editor Work Better

Autodesk's Jeff Bartels delivers a detailed walkthrough on how to make the Civil 3D Section Editor perform more consistently.
This is a 30-Minute Workout webinar
See the Jeff Bartels YouTube Channel.
and the Civil Immersion blog.

Comments

Jeff delivers a good walkthrough of the essential Alignment, Profile, Marker, Feature Line, and Survey Figure Object Style interplay and the detailed Section Editor controls in Civil 3D.
Well worth the watch time to learn how to make the Section Editor perform better for you time after time.

Don't be fooled that Jeff demos all of this good stuff with all the Civil 3D Features in one drawing.
Better to employ shared Project-based Data References (DREF) whenever possible.
