The use of 2018+ Connected Alignments and Profile pairs in Corridors is a significant design method improvement in Civil 3D.
Mixing DREF design control with drawing design control will indeed cause Connected Alignment update issues.
We can employ all DREF design control in Corridors and produce great results.
That does mean we edit that design control in the design control data shortcut drawing(s).
Constructing our Corridor Baselines with partial cross sections rather the full cross sections has many other significant design advantages.

This is a part of a multiple video demo of the classic Feature Lines Only mechanics to grade the top surface of parking lot in Civil 3D.
Both new and carefully named Feature Lines are quickly produced from the Flowline. A Civil 3D Grading is not employed to produce the curb structure.
We may not always be so lucky to create successful offset Feature Lines from complex Feature Line geometry. We may have to divide and conquer.
Yes. We could emloy the flowline Feature Line as the Baseline for a Corrridor with an Assembly with a Curb subassembly.

A simple Grading like this one will generally remain stable.
Nice to see Nate base and get all the horizontal control for the parking lot design from an XREF drawing.
Instead of a Grading to create the intermediate surface, we could employ a simple Corridor and an Assembly with simple Link subassemblies or Lanes.
One advantage of the Corridor approach is we can generate the edge Feature Lines for both the Flowlines and our grading subgrade(s) in one pass with a Lane Sub.
