Jeff is notoriously good the application of those sneaky AutoCAD and Civil 3D tools.
I'm not sure why better crafted Graph View Top and Graph View Bottom Profile View Label extension anchors locations aren't employed?
Those produce easier to read and more consistent Profile View Labels with less hassle and manual tweaking from Label Sets.

These Surface extraction methods work on more than holes and piles in Civil 3D. That is way to easy to miss.
The Minimum Distance trick can also generate useful and editable design control from unexpected and temporary Surface sources in Civil 3D.

He shows most of the examples with AutoCAD primitives not Civil 3D Features. Call that a regrettable AutoCAD first bias.
The effective use of Transparent commands in Civil 3D save those who employ them well hours and hours a month in production use.
This is a mission critical Civil 3D skill set.
