This is a decent walk through of Offset Alignments, Offset Profiles, and basic Widening mechanics in Civil 3D.
Kyle suggests some naming convention examples that I'd take with a grain of salt, but the need to employ Name Templates with a plan is very important.
I prefer to keep all my Parent and child (All the related features) for project data shortcuts in a single separate container drawing so they can be edited and/or replaced from one place.
More complex Widenings (like knuckles on curves) unqestionably take some practice as do Widening transistions with complex curves.
It pays off significantly to pose yourself problems and do the practice work before you try them in live projects.

Korey Gaddy, of TPM Solutions, details basic Alignment (horizontal control) edits while employing multiple Offset Alignments and a Site Parcel in Civil 3D.

Korey presents the essentials of on-screen Alignment edits and some super basic Parcels creation.
The significant point is probably his use of multiple Offset Alignments to also help build the right of ways to start the Parcel blocks.
Only the ROW Offset Alignments are in the Site Parcel in this scenario.
The short Parcel creation section neglects to mention the fact that Parcels can be built automatically and quicker. They can also be quickly redone to produce interactively other defined results with different Parcel Layout Tool parameters.

This basic CIVIL 3D FUN video dicusses how to employ the Surface Edit Order stack to fix some common Civil 3D surface build and resolution problems.

The Surface Edit Order stack and the build properties of a Civil 3D Surface (not covered in the video) are important to understand and know how to adjust or fix.
It's understandable to falsely relate the Surface Build Order to the AutoCAD Draw order, but we get the idea.
The other hidden nasty is to understand how the buried away Site-based Feature Line Style Priority properties can effect Feature Line resolution in Civil 3D.
In other words, the Feature Line Site assignment and the employed Style names of Feature Lines that might interact can make Surface resolutions problematic.
