Alan Gilbert of Autodesk explains the basics and some of the nuances of the Civil 3D Mapcheck tool.
Note he starts this video with a load of a saved external Traverse file from the old COGO or much improved Traverse Editor.
Where do you store your project library of these? Ok. That is way too easy to miss.

Yes. Civil 3D uses Labels for the Mapcheck tool not geometry which blows some CAD minds.
Stored Mapcheck objects do not appear in the Toolspace. That's annoying.
Every Parcel in a Site Parcel also includes another form of mapcheck as a fundamental property of a resolved collection of Parcel segments.
That is not at all the same thing. That geometry based Site Parcel topology data is reportable and exportable too.

How to use the COGO Editor in the Survey Ribbon. Not to be confused with the Traverse and Adjustment tools in 2016 Productivity Pack 3. That's a bit confusing...
I cannot stress enough that you need to get the setup done and save the file and save often in all of these tools which do work only in memory.
Steve mentions this but it takes him a while to get there. :+)
