Seth does a good job of covering the essentials of Survey functionality in Civil 3D without getting bogged down in the details. We could wish that he covered the use of Survey Query tools, but he covers the rest in less than an hour.
The little bit about the use of asteriks in the Point Code field of a Description Key isn't exactly true, but never mind.
The Framework for Civil 3D includes 2000+ Codes, matched Description Keys, Figure Prefix Dbs, and all the above resources. This makes it a better place to start.
