Automated Civil 3D Property Set Data Definitions

Automated Civil 3D Property Set Data Definitions

2/5/2021

Joe Hedrick, a Technical Specialist at IMAGINiT, delivers the first of a three part video series on a creative use of Property Set Data implemenation in Civil 3D.
This initial video focuses how to define a Property Set Definition with a Formula based calculation and simply apply that to entities.
From the IMAGINiT YouTube Channel.

Comments

Joe delivers some solid advanced Property Set creation and assignment instruction on the way to solving an interesting challenge in Civil 3D.
There is a small bit of Civil 3D API VBSCRIPT code involved which is explained.
You might want to employ a Civil 3D Structure ObjectID and not the AutoCAD drawing specific Handle, but maybe I'm missing something.

These days we might also consider a Dynamo for Civil 3D solution to test the Structures differently and then update the Property Set value(s) via a Dynamo script.
That is not so instant a solution, but is less Civil 3D release specific and perhaps easier to generalize to other and/or more detailed purposes.
The power of the Property Set vehicle is the most important transportable and adaptive part to get.

 Create Superelevated Assemblies and Corridors

Create Superelevated Assemblies and Corridors

09/30/2020

Korey Gaddy, of TPM Solutions, walks through of superelevation subassemblies details and lane mechanics for a driveway Corridor.
From the TPM Solutions YouTube Channel

Comments

Korey presents the essentials of the Civil 3D Corridor superelevation Assemby construction mechanics.
For reasons unknown, Korey does not walk through the calculation of the Superelevation on the Alignment or
the necessary Design Speed property assignment for the Alignment in the video.

 Subdivision Grading with Corridors

Subdivision Grading with Corridors

10/1/2020

Jim Coppinger of ZenTek Consultants explains how to inventively employ some Civil 3D techniques to employ Corridors and Gradings in Subdivision grading design.
From the ZenTek Consultants YouTube Channel.

Comments

If you understand and employ Feature Line based Gradings in Civil 3D, Jim's technique to employ Corridor geometry Feature Line output will be easy to understand.
The Frequencies employed in the Corridor Regions do have a direct effect on the detail in the Extracted Feature Line(s).

Yes. You may want the Datum of the Corridor cross section and a Feature Line specific to that for a grading surface.

Recognize that these days the Corridor and dynamic Extracted Feature Line can be from a Data Reference (DREF) Corridor source.

I tend to prefer a Multiple Baseline Corridors approach with grading Assemblies to accomplish more with the Corridor.
That is usually easier to manage in the long run considering all the potential complex design control in a Subdivision project in Civil 3D.
See the Site Grading with Corridors section.
