Key Changes

See the Spreadsheet Tools help and documentation in the Members section
You must Register and login to see this AutoCAD Civil 3D help
See the NewKeys sheet in the Layer Standards Tools

A significant change is made to -NPLT Key (NoPlot) properties for STB to CTB conversions
The old 244 color convention was changed to color 240 in the Layer Standards.
The STB plotstyles convention of Invisible Ink is not effected.
Make sure you update your Layer Standards files and Layer States to reflect this important update.

Any Keys that employed the STB color ranage of 240-255 were changed for CTB compatibility
An attempt was made to intentionaly limit major color shade changes for visual consistency
The Keys and colors for specific Keys were updated as follows:

  • BRKL 232-233 to 202-203
  • CANT 242-243 to 232-233
  • DIRC 241 to 231
  • DTCI 232-233 to 132-133
  • FEN@ -all fence keys from 252-253 to 222-223
  • GMJR 21 to 252-253 - this increases the plotted lineweight of major grids in View Features

  • MAJR 242-243 to 22-23
  • MASS 242-243 to 232-233
  • MINR 252-253 to 21 - this decreases the plotted lineweight of minor contours
  • NPLT 244 to 240 - matches Invisible Ink with a standard color with 0 lineweight in CTB
  • Note that the PATT for hatch patterns was not changed in STB but is changed to 250 in CTB
  • PAVE 252-253 to 42-43

General Styles

Notes

The Style updates here produce both improved STB output and enable consistent CTB conversions.
Supplied Layer States are designed to systematically help manage any published output.

Duplicate, misnamed, and/or decrecated Styles from Release 4 and earlier releases have been removed.
Updated replacement Styles are included. A Style Import test in Civil 3D will show you differences.

Colors employed for like named Styles (e.g. "Curb") are consistent within the collection and obey Last Digit Rules.
A consistent color scheme is employed to help end users more easily identify common Civil 3D displayed components.
The new color Civil 3D component indentity scheme differs from the old STB only identification scheme employed previously.

Colors between 50-90 were avoided to conform to black and white background visibility rules employed in Layer Standards Tools

  • Updated all colors to conform to STB and CTB - see Subassemblies Code Tool
  • If required, updated Style Descriptions for conform to Release 6 Layer scheme
  • Last Digit Rule updates to default of 1 for linework for Link Styles
  • Last Digit Rule updates of default of 0 for linework and of 1 for pattern fills for Shapes

No planned changes to Note, Line, and Curve Label Styles.

Remember to always import +Always Import styles that include expressions before importing the Styles.
This helps decrease the chance of Expressions improperly functioning in Styles that employ them.
See Marker Label Styles.

Code Set Style Resolution

Be careful not to confuse the purpose of a Code Set Style.
Many of the Styles in the Generals collection may be employed in Code Set Styles for a variety of purposes.
Code Set Styles serve four very different purposes in Civil 3D:

  • Subassembly and Assembly constuction display in Plan - what the cross section looks like
  • Corridor output in Plan - how the plan view of the corridor may be deliniated, colorized, and/or screened for output
  • Cross Section display in the Section Editor
  • The detailed Section View output and annotation of Assemblies from corridors

The supplied Code Set Styles are intentionally generalized but retain tasked based purposes reflected in Code Set Style names.

Note that not every stock Subassembly code employed in Civil 3D is intentionally not represented in the Styles collection.
Code Set Styles allow us to thoughtfully combine the application of more generalized Styles to build consistent results.
For example employ:

  • A generic Curb shape style in a Code Set for use with Median coded structures.
  • A single pair of Cut and Fill Shape Styles with cover a multitude of Plan, Profile, and Section outputs.
  • A single basic Link style to represent many kinds of subassembly links in an Assembly when identification does not matter.
Where another Code Set Style may employ specific Link Styles to help identify and aid in quality control tasks.

This technique reduces the total Style count, improves output, and is typically much less confusing to most users.

A similar combination technique is applied to Feature Line Styles employed in Code Set Styles for corridor output.
Optional Feature Line Styles not employed in the supplied Code Set Styles are included.
These include extra corridor Feature Line Styles and a selection of grading Feature Line Styles.

  • Specialized Feature Line Styles with non-default assignments were not changed
  • Profile linework assignment remains to C-VIEW-PROF-LINE
  • Profile vertex assignments for Markers controlled by Marker assignment
Typically General Medium Markers for start vertex and General Small Markers for other vertices
These resolve By Layer to C-VIEW-PROF-MARK
  • Section Mark assignment controled by specifics of the Marker assignment
Typically this is a name matched Marker style where properties resolve By Layer to C-VIEW-SCTN-MARK
  • By Key Site Feature Lines layer and propertiy assignments default to Major Key and
typical site structure Minor Keys of BOTS|CNTR|FOOT|OFLT|OFRT|TOPS|WALL

  • Plan representations for subassemblies employ forced colors and 50% screens by default - see Subassemblies Code Tool

Assignment to colors ending in 0 matches 50% screens in the supplied CTB file resources.
  • Cut and Fill Material shapes default to new shades of red and blue within confines of color background rules.
Cut and Fill shapes employ hatch patterns in all representations
Colors between 50 and 90 are avoided for visibility.
  • Uncoded Shape style color forced to 250 now plots with 50% screen by default
  • CR-Milll style incorrectly named - replaced and deleted

Screened Shape Styles

Employed primarily as Material Styles in Plan representations in Code Set Styles.

These Styles effectively hide, produce screening, and/or color identity validation of the details of areas in corridors in Plan
Hatch patterns are intentionally not typically employed in these style to reduce conversion issues and complications.

  • % Screened Shape styles updated to conform to STB and CTB and use variable % screen CTB colors 240-249
This does reduce Plan view color differentiation in corridors in STB but simplifies STB to CTB conversions.
  • Added a 0% Screened Shape style with color 240 for consistency
New 0% Screened Shape style replaced +NoPlot Shape style in some Code Set Styles for STB to CTB conversions
